ABC’s of Salvation
No person can save themselves. No amount of good works, hoping the ‘good will outweigh the bad’, will get anyone into heaven. The Ancient Egyptians believed this. They thought if they did a lot of good works that they would enter the afterlife with a ‘light heart’ and would be blessed because of it. But God has declared that He is the One Who weighs the hearts. And He has sent His own Son to this earth to make it possible for people to have a ‘light heart’ through His Son’s sacrifice on the cross.
In order to accept this sacrifice that Jesus has made for you and me, we must respond to God in faith. To understand how this is done, consider the following steps. These are the ABC’s of Salvation.
A – Admit
Acknowledge the fact that you are a sinner.
This means recognizing that all people have fallen short of God’s perfect standard and have done things that are wrong.
Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death.”
B – Believe
Believe in Jesus Christ.
Believe that Jesus is God’s Son, that He lived a perfect life, died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins, and rose again from the dead.
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
Acts 16:31 “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved.”
C – Confess
Confess Jesus as Lord.
Openly declare your faith in Jesus and commit to follow Him as the Lord of your life. Repentantly turn away from your sin and choose to live for God.
Romans 10:9-10 “If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”
1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
